HOLIDAY HILARITY: A HUMOROUS HISTORY OF CELEBRATION, by Jeffrey Gurian (Author), Otakara Klettke (Author), Alex David (Illustrator)
“Holiday Hilarity – A Humorous History of Celebration”, will take you on an adventurous journey through the holidays, while poking fun at some of our long-standing traditions, and providing fascinating and fun facts about the history of 13 of our most celebrated occasions. We live in a country where we celebrate many holidays. All different kinds of holidays. Some are labeled legal, some official and some religious. Some get parades, others don’t. Some seem to require gift-giving, others not. Holiday time can be wonderful for many people, but the one thing that all of them seem to have in common is the ability to produce stress in many “celebrants” who often feel “forced” to be having a great time whether they want to or not. But no matter how we feel about them, there’s no escape from the holidays. The best thing we can do is to embrace them and try and understand why we celebrate them in the first place. All of them have rich histories whose facts will often amaze you and as you’ll see in this book, even more often surprise you! Holiday stress can be caused by many reasons, like difficult memories attached to certain holidays, inability to travel to see those close to you, or even worse, … ABILITY to travel to see those close to you! Sometimes it’s due to hard feelings with family members, lack of money to buy presents, or something as seemingly simple as putting up with a house full of holiday guests who you love but who don’t know when to leave! Nationally known New York City based comedy writer Jeffrey Gurian teamed up with bestselling Oregon-based author Otakara Klettke to address these issues with humor. What better way to deal with stressful situations than to have a few laughs served up nice and hot, … not on a sizzling platter but on a giggling platter! The book starts with “coming to” on New Year’s Day and trying to recover from the New Year’s Eve celebration the night before, and ends with a whimsical look at Christmas, possibly the most widely celebrated and most stressful holiday of the bunch.
