THE VETERAN SUICIDE RATE
As the veteran suicide rate has been on the rise since the pandemic, Jim Bohannon talks with MAJA KAZAZIC, internationally recognized motivational speaker, entrepreneur, strategist, author and a survivor about somee of the root causes, signs to look for and ways to cope and seek help..
KAZAZIC is r originally from Mostar in former Yugoslavia. In 1993, at the height of the Bosnian War, her family and 60,000 other civilians were caught between two armies without food, water, electricity, or the ability to contact the outside world. During this time, Maja and some friends were caught in an RPG explosion. All five friends were killed, and she was severely injured. She spent the next few weeks in a makeshift local hospital and had an amputation with no anesthesia.
Just sixteen, Maja was evacuated without her parents to the United States for medical treatment. Over the next two years she would learn English, re-learn how to walk, undergo over a hundred surgeries, and adjust to life as an American high school student. She later attended college at St. Francis University, majoring in Psychology. In 2006, she founded Vela Business Solutions, a successful website design and development company.
Maja now lives in Florida with her family, including her service dog, Rosie. Despite the physical challenges that come from being a below-the-knee amputee, Maja stays physically active, enjoying kayaking, windsurfing, tennis and golf. She is an ambassador for Road to Peace and Bosnian Futures Foundation, and is actively involved with Their World and Camp No Limits.
Maja has been featured in Reader’s Digest, Good Housekeeping Magazine, Fox News, BBC News, Discovery Network, the Philadelphia Inquirer and more and has delivered her timely messages to clients from organizations big and small all over the world.
